Acanthus

Harelbeke, near Kortrijk
“Alles kan, niets moet”
The house motto

Acanthus stands on the Brugsesteenweg in Harelbeke, just outside Kortrijk in West Flanders, and describes itself as the largest erotic private club in the Benelux. Its main slogan, in its own words, is alles kan, niets moet — everything is possible, nothing is compulsory — and the house is laid out for a complete night out: an aperitif in the VIP lounge, dinner from the club's own kitchen in one of three restaurants, then the erotic disco.

Beyond the dance floor there is a wellness area with a sauna and a six-seat jacuzzi, a waterbed, an erotic cinema and, upstairs, some thirty themed rooms, from a mirror room and a dark room to bamboo rooms and a giant Heavenly Bed. Outside, the Extasiapark garden adds a terrace, swing seats and cabins for warmer evenings.

The week runs on three nights. Monday and Friday are open to couples, single women and single men; Saturday, the longest night, welcomes couples and single women, and the upper floors are for couples only. Entry is an all-in price that covers drinks and the buffet, and a €20 annual membership is required from the first visit. There is nothing to book for a regular night, and every newcomer is given a personal tour. Lingerie is required upstairs at all times, and downstairs later in the evening on Mondays and Fridays. Above every other rule, the club's own is short: no means no.

Dress code

Arrive neatly dressed, as for a night on the town. Upstairs, lingerie is required at all times. Downstairs, lingerie from 11pm on Fridays and later in the evening on Mondays (the site gives both 9pm and 10pm); on Saturdays it is your call — though the club notes that, as the night goes on, ordinary clothes stand out more than lingerie.

Good to know

  • Membership (€20 a year, one card per couple) is required from the first visit — and a card never guarantees entry.
  • Selection at the door is strict: groups of more than four are refused, and some nights admit only a limited number of newcomers.
  • First visit? Every newcomer is given a personal tour of the club.
  • Mobile phones may not be used inside, glasses stay downstairs, and smoking is allowed only in the designated areas.
  • Showers with towels and more than 200 lockers are on site; a valid ID is required at the door.
  • Phone +32 474 02 80 76 or email info@acanthus.be; the club lists nearby hotels on its website.
